Who I AM

Software Engineer, Educator, & Researcher

I am Anh Tran, a software engineer and NLP researcher based in the San Francisco Bay Area. My work bridges the gap between complex technology and everyday needs. I specialize in building accessible, browser-based tools—from U.S. Citizenship Test prep to practical PDF and QR utilities.

Beyond development, I am deeply committed to education. I teach AI and programming at Laney College, creating beginner-friendly materials to help students—especially those navigating language barriers—succeed in the tech industry.

My Journey

Bridging the Gap: From Immigrant to AI Researcher

My journey began when I immigrated to the U.S. from Vietnam, balancing work in the service industry with part-time studies at Laney College. That experience instilled in me a drive to make education accessible. While earning my B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science at CSUEB, I founded a digital community helping thousands of Vietnamese immigrants prepare for U.S. citizenship.

Today, I am an AI instructor at Laney College and an active researcher in Natural Language Processing (NLP), collaborating with professors across the CSUEB and UC systems. My goal is to leverage AI to build tools that remove barriers for students and immigrants, smoothing the path I once walked myself.
